Schoppernau mountain cheese-making centre in the Bregenzerwald

Part and parcel of the village of Schoppernau, the traditional almland dairy will provide a valuable insight into mountain cheesemaking. From behind a glass wall visitors can watch the cheesemaker at work making the cheese, and the robot caring for it afterwards!

Exhibition and educational cheese-making centre, learn and enjoy the "Echo of our mountains". Look over the cheesemaker's shoulder and learn the secrets of cheese production. How do the holes get into the cheese? How long does a mountain cheese take to ripen? Why does every mountain cheese taste different? We will be happy to answer these and any other questions you may have!

In the silver fir parlour you can taste various types of cheese with a glass of alpine milk to wash it down. There is also an interesting film telling you all about cheese production in the Bregenzerwald, as well as containing a lot of information about the region's agriculture. 

After your visit to the mountain cheesemaking centre you will understand why we Vorarlbergers are so proud of our cheese and our agriculture!
